AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH & EXTENSION SERVICES IS A 23,000 M² INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION PROPOSAL IN GYEONGSANGBUK-DO, SOUTH KOREA. CONCEIVED AS A LANDSCAPE OF INTERCONNECTED RESEARCH PAVILIONS, THE PROJECT BRINGS AGRICULTURAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIMENTATION, AND PUBLIC EXCHANGE TOGETHER WITHIN AN ARCHITECTURE SHAPED BY VEGETATION, DAYLIGHT, AND A WARM STRUCTURAL LATTICE.

CONCEPT
The proposal replaces a single institutional block with a family of rounded volumes gathered across a continuous planted setting. A timber-toned diagrid wraps the pavilions and bridges, giving the complex a shared identity while allowing glass, gardens, and shaded terraces to remain visible through its structure.  

Horizontal research spaces are punctuated by slender planted towers that rise above the complex as environmental markers. Their vertical gardens extend the productive landscape upward, while rooftop planting and solar arrays combine ecological performance with a distinctive architectural silhouette.  

The project presents agricultural research as an open and visible civic activity. Its networked form encourages exchange between specialized work, extension services, and the wider landscape rather than treating research as an isolated institutional program.  

By integrating vegetation, renewable-energy elements, shaded circulation, and a lightweight structural language, the proposal imagines a research campus whose environmental ambitions are legible in both its operation and identity.
PROGRAM
Research and extension activities are distributed among linked pavilions rather than enclosed within one large building. Bridges and sheltered paths connect the volumes, while gardens and courtyards establish a sequence of collaborative, public, and more focused environments.

The circular forms create multiple orientations and bring daylight and landscape close to the interior. Covered edges, elevated connections, planted roofs, and open ground-level routes support movement across the campus while preserving visual continuity with the surrounding agricultural fields.
