DOLPHIN ISLAND IS A 54,392 M² HOSPITALITY MASTER PLAN FOR CAYO JOHNSON IN THE BOCAS DEL TORO ARCHIPELAGO. THE PROPOSAL ORGANIZES A SERIES OF LAND- AND WATER-BASED DESTINATIONS THROUGH LOOPING PATHS THAT MOVE LIGHTLY ACROSS THE ISLAND, CONNECTING ACCOMMODATION, WELLNESS, ENTERTAINMENT, DINING, AND MARINA PROGRAMS WHILE RETAINING THE MANGROVE FOREST AND SURROUNDING CARIBBEAN ECOSYSTEM AS THE PROJECT'S PRIMARY SPATIAL FRAMEWORK.
CONCEPT
The master plan brings together three conceptual systems: atomic motion, biophilia, and ecosystem. Atomic motion informs a network of elliptical routes and program clusters, using orbital geometries to create movement, association, and new connections across the island. Rather than imposing a conventional linear resort plan, the circulation behaves as a continuous field that links distinct experiences while adapting to the existing landscape.
Biophilia establishes a direct relationship between development and the island's tropical environment. Architecture, landscape, and movement are conceived as interdependent elements, with vegetation occupying the spaces within and around the principal loops.
The ecosystem concept extends this relationship to the marine setting, treating land, mangrove, water, wildlife, and human activity as parts of one connected habitat. Dolphin Island proposes a resort model in which the island's ecological structure remains legible within the development. Approximately 63% of the site is identified as mangrove swamp and 37% as land, making environmental continuity a defining constraint and design resource.
By concentrating accommodation and amenities within connected clusters, the plan preserves extensive areas of vegetation while creating varied encounters with forest, coast, and sea. The result is a destination conceived as an inhabitable landscape rather than a collection of isolated buildings.

PROGRAM
The preliminary program includes a marina, wellness center, shopping areas, an outdoor theater and concert venue, over-water pods, three zones of pods on land, and a mixed entertainment destination with a casino, restaurants, bars, nightlife, and tropical food experiences. A separate waterfront cluster combines an underwater restaurant, an over-water beach, and a beach bar, while another area is reserved for cultivation.
Accommodation is distributed between compact circular pods over land and two-bedroom efficiency suites over water. The land pods include a lounge, terrace, bathroom, bedroom, water access, and a garden with a fire pit; the over-water suites add two bedrooms, a living and dining room, pool, terrace, direct sea access, and an interior connection to the marine environment.
The planning diagram assigns approximately 20.41% of the project to pods and 79.59% to amenities. Existing vegetation and buildings inform the layout, while pedestrian loops weave between program areas and respond to sun, prevailing north-northeast winds, shoreline conditions, and the over-water concession.
