LOCATED IN SANTA TERESA, ON COSTA RICA’S PACIFIC COAST, WEAR HOUSE CONNECTS INDEPENDENT RESIDENTIAL VOLUMES THROUGH PATHWAYS SURROUNDED BY VEGETATION AND WATER. AN UNDULATING ROOF UNIFIES SOCIAL, PRIVATE AND SERVICE SPACES, CREATING A CONTINUOUS RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SHELTER AND THE TROPICAL LANDSCAPE.
The architectural concept begins with the separation and rotation of volumes. This arrangement creates spaces between enclosed rooms where vegetation, reflecting pools and circulation become integral parts of the house. These intervals establish a gradual transition between the domestic interior and its tropical setting.
A roof raised above the volumes brings the composition together. Its changing profile introduces a sense of lightness and movement, while slender supports form a conceptual “forest of columns.” Openings in the roof admit natural light into the spaces beneath, drawing attention to the planting and water along the connecting paths.
The relationship between the roof and the enclosed volumes gives the house two complementary scales: the intimacy of individual rooms and the broader continuity of a shared canopy. Wood, water and vegetation reinforce this relationship, connecting the architectural composition with the landscape.
The programme distributes social activities, private accommodation and service functions across independent volumes connected by sheltered pathways, gardens and water.
Living, dining and kitchen spaces extend towards terraces and pools, establishing continuity between indoor and outdoor gathering areas. An outdoor kitchen, pool bar, cinema, gym and omakase bar offer complementary settings for recreation and shared activities.
The private programme includes main bedrooms, children’s rooms and guest accommodation, together with a library and kitchenette. An office and boardroom provide dedicated workspaces within the residential setting.
Separate service access and circulation routes support daily operations. Between the enclosed volumes, landscaped passages connect the different uses and make movement through the house part of the experience of its tropical surroundings.
